Video Encoder-Based Network Video System

In this surveillance system, videos used to be recorded on an open platform, a video server. Normally, the video encoder connected to analog cameras digitized and compressed the videos. This was a true network-based surveillance system where the digitization and compression were done by the encoder and recording by the server.

Network Camera-Based Surveillance System

The latest kid on the block is supposedly IP-based surveillance system, where the images and videos are captured and digitized inside the camera. They provide consistent high image quality. One benefit of this IP-based surveillance system is that you can use this for more than just transporting the video. These cameras can be configured remotely and data can be transmitted over the network without any data loss.

This is how the basic security cameras evolved massively over time and now they are rendering high-quality services to the intended users.
